Northwest Territories nursing pay rates

UNW – GNWT (Appendix A10, Health & Social Services) · Apr 1 2023 – Mar 31 2026

Expired — in bargaining

The territorial agreement pays ONE shift premium of $2.50/h for every hour worked between 16:00 and 08:00 — there is no separate evening and night rate, so both are set the same here. Weekends add another $2.50/h for hours worked Saturday and Sunday. In-charge and preceptor pay are PERCENTAGES of your base rate, not dollars: a responsibility allowance of 10 % for acting periods of five shifts or fewer and 12 % beyond that, and a formal mentorship or preceptorship pays 12 % for up to three months — so applying NT converts those against your own rate. Overtime is 1.5×, stepping to 2× after the first four consecutive overtime hours and on the second or subsequent consecutive day of rest. A worked designated paid holiday pays 2× for every hour ON TOP of the holiday pay you would have received. Two big things onWard does not model: the Northern Allowance, worth $3,700 a year in Yellowknife and up to $36,700 in Ulukhaktok, and the nursing-station special allowance of $6,000–$12,000 a year depending on how many nurses staff the station.

Check this against your own cheque

onWard holds these Northwest Territories rates and applies them to the shifts you actually worked — evenings, nights, weekends, overtime at its own multiplier, statutory and super-stat pay, in-charge and preceptor hours, then deductions and net pay. Enter your own base rate and it works for RNs, RPNs and LPNs alike. Every figure is cited to the clause it comes from, so you can check the app’s work against your contract.
